Please join us in welcoming a familiar face to the SJ JACL community. Scott Sakakihara previously served as a JACL Mike M. Masaoka Congressional Fellow, working in Senator Mazie Hirono’s office and at the Obama White House. Through this experience—especially his work on civil rights issues and the Affordable Care Act—Scott found his calling in public service, which eventually led him to run for Union City Council and now for the State Senate.
Born and raised in Union City, Scott is yonsei and the grandson of four grandparents who were incarcerated at Manzanar and Poston during World War II. He is also a U.S. Navy Reserve officer, a graduate of Harvard Law School, and the proud father of three young children. During his time on the City Council, Scott worked to build more housing, hire additional police officers, and protect workers’ rights.
Scott is currently running in the June primary for State Senate District 10, which includes Fremont, Fairview, Hayward, Newark, Union City, Milpitas, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, portions of San Jose, and the Alum Rock and East Foothills communities.
