2020 Scholarship Program

Calling all high school seniors! The San Jose JACL is offering and administering many local scholarships to you. There are two applications available: Freshman Scholarship application and/or the Ray and Lucy Matsumoto Vocational/Business Scholarship application.

Student membership in JACL is not required, but if you do join the San Jose JACL as a student member (membership form is on the website), you will be eligible for the Chapter scholarship or the Henry and Ada Uyeda Memorial Scholarship. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who are student members of JACL OR whose parent or parents are of Japanese ancestry. The applicant must be planning to attend a trade school, business school, college, university or any institution of higher learning in the Fall of 2020. Certain stipulations will apply to the listed scholarships as noted below.

SCHOLARSHIP LIST & AMOUNTS

  • $10,000 Oyama Family Foundation Scholarship ($2,500 for each of 4 years)

  • $3,000 Kenji Sakauye Memorial Scholarship

  • $2,500 George Masunaga Endowment Scholarship

  • $1,500 San Jose JACL Chapter Award (membership in the San Jose JACL is required)

  • $1,000 Masuo B. Nakamura Memorial Scholarship

  • $1,000 Ray & Lucy Matsumoto Vocational/Business Scholarship
    (preference to a student planning to attend a trade or business school - separate application required)

  • $1,000 San Jose Ninja Youth Foundation Scholarship (2) (membership in the Club is required)

  • $1,000 Henry & Ada Uyeda Memorial Scholarship (membership in JACL is required)

  • $500 Lanette Yoneko Hayakawa Memorial Scholarship (student must be a senior within the East Side Union High School District)
